I.A.Q.

Infrequently Asked Questions

How often do you update YA Library UK?

I wish there were a clear answer to this. I aim to update around once a month, but this may not always happen. In the past I updated more frequently, but since I’m currently not working with teens, I don’t have as much time to devote to this site.

Your site is called YA Library UK. Why do you mostly write about English public libraries?

My practical experience comes from working in English public libraries, as do most of the sources I find online. However, I would love to feature more on libraries and in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. I’d also be more than happy to have more features on school libraries.

Why don’t you have more guest contributors?

I would love more guest writers and/or regular contributors, but I’ve never had anyone volunteer to do it (I always request contributions). If you’re interested in contributing, drop me an email at yalibraryuk@gmail.com. If you know of someone who you think would make a great contributor, please let me know.

When are you going to design a more user-friendly layout/better cataloging system for the site? This grey-text-on-white thing hurts my eyes.

I am planning to eventually redesign the site and create a better reference system for posts, but I’ve not yet set a date for it to happen. If you have a specific problem or question (e.g. you find the text unreadable) do let me know and I’ll do my best to fix the issue.

I found a typo. Should I tell you?

Yes! Please do.

I’m writing a pamphlet, paper, thesis, etc. about teens and libraries. Can I send you a few questions or a survey?

Most certainly! Please email me at yalibraryuk@gmail.com. Please note that I’m not always brilliant at replying, but I’ll do my best.

I’m an author. Will you promote my new young adult book?

I love YA novels and non-fiction for teens, but I don’t promote specific books. I do periodically mention books that have considerable pop culture cache, such as popular YA novels that have been adapted for the screen.

Will you write a guest post for my site?

If it’s a non-commercial site and related to teens or libraries or reading or something else vaguely related to teen library services in the United Kingdom, then yes, I’d be happy to!
